| The environs of Pietra Ligure offer numerous
possibilities for short, interesting trips. Toirano
and Borgio Verezzi with their
famous natural grottos, the picturesque Ligurian hamlets of
Verezzi, Finalborgo
and Noli, plus Albenga
with its cathedral and old town centre dominated by characteristic
medieval towers, are only a few of the places just a short
journey away.
Furthermore, day trips to the most celebrated
resorts of Liguria and the nearby
Côte d’Azur, within 160
Km, are also possible:
- Genoa (80
Km) with its monuments and old port area, home to Europe’s
largest aquarium;
- the “pearls” of Tigullio Santa
Margherita, Rapallo,
Camogli, and the exclusive
seaside hamlet of Portofino (110
Km) renowned throughout the world for its rare beauty;
- further to the East, the Cinque
Terre (160 Km) with its picturesque little towns
steeped in history.
To the West:
- Cervo (35
Km), a magnificent medieval hamlet rising steeply above
the sea;
- Sanremo
(70 Km), the most renowned resort along the Riviera of Flowers,
with its famous casino and lavish gardens;
- the Principality
of Monaco and Monte Carlo
(110 Km), the playground of the rich with its famous casino,
the Prince’s Palace, the Oceanographic Museum;
- the most famous resorts of the Côte
d’Azur, including Menton,
Nice, Antibes
and Cannes (150 Km).
As a rather original, interesting alternative
to the beach, there are naturalist day-trips on the open sea,
to the Cetacean Sanctuary,
a triangle of sea looking just off the Ligurian coastline, where
one can glimpse rorqual whales, dolphins and sperm whales from
specially kitted out boats that set sail from the ports of Savona
and Alassio (20 Km.)
